Repeat Prescriptions

How to re-order your medication

What are repeat prescriptions?

If you take medication on a regular basis your GP may add them to your repeat prescription record. This will allow you to order your medication at set intervals over a period of time. This period of time will be determined by your doctor.

How to re-order yours

You can order your repeat prescription using one of the following methods:

Please note: We no longer accept email prescription requests sent to our prescription email address. Any requests received via our email address will not be processed.

How long do repeats take to be processed?

The practice requires ‘TWO WORKING DAYS’ NOTICE to prepare the repeat prescription order for the chemist, and the chemist usually requires a further 24 hours to dispense the medication. Non repeat items may take longer to process as the GP will need to review and authorise the requested item.

We recommend you order your prescription a week in advance of your prescription running out, and longer if you send your request via postal mail.

Where can I collect my prescription?

When the doctor has processed your repeat prescription, you can obtain it in one of the following ways:

  • Collect from a pharmacy: You can have your prescription sent directly to one of the following pharmacies to be fulfilled and your medications made up for collection:
    • Davidson Chemists, 98 East High Street, Forfar, DD8 2ET
    • Lloyds Pharmacy, 42 Castle Street, Forfar, DD8 3AB
    • Boots Pharmacy, 20-22 Castle Street, Forfar, DD8 3AD
    • Letham Pharmacy, 26 Blairs Road, Letham, DD8 2PE
    • Lloyds Pharmacy, 9-11 Roods, Kirriemuir, DD8 4EZ
    • Boots Pharmacy, 10 High Street, Forfar, DD8 4EY
  • Collect direct from the surgery: You can request to collect your prescription form from reception and take it to any pharmacy of your choice.

Please refer to our list of pharmacies in the area, which includes details of opening times.

Repeats for long-term conditions

If you have a long term condition and require regular medication you can register with your pharmacy for long term prescriptions prescriptions (also known as serial prescriptions) and the pharmacy will then dispense these at 8 weekly intervals without the need to order your prescription online or at the surgery.

Hints and tips

for smooth ordering...

  • order in plenty of time so you don't run out of your medication
  • remember prescriptions may take slightly longer if the doctor needs to check your records before issuing a prescription
  • note if you order items not listed on your slip or record your doctor needs to authorise another prescription; this may take longer than 48 hours and is at the doctor's discretion
  • consider that chemist availability will depend on the individual pharmacy's working arrangements
  • don't forget your health and safety is our main priority and the doctor may ask you to attend the surgery to discuss the medication you have requested if it is not on your repeat list or an item on the repeat medication list needs reviewing
  • try to order all items at one time for your convenience

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to review their regular medications with a GP, Nurse Practitioner or Nurse - at least once a year.

Notification of this may appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you act on this notification to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
