September Awareness Campaigns

promoting health and wellbeing

From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Posted: 8 September 2020 · Practice news

Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some health and wellbeing campaigns.

The PPG would like to highlight the following campaigns in September:

  • Suicide Prevention: World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10 September each year to promote worldwide action to prevent suicides. Tweet and share using the hashtags #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #SuicidePrevention #WSPD2020 and #WSPD. Help is available when you're feeling low – you don't have to hurt yourself or suffer in silence. If you're in crisis or struggling to cope, reach out. Services are available 24/7, on the phone and through text or webchat so you don't have to talk if you don't want to. Find out more on NHS Inform.
  • Blood Pressure Awareness: "Know your numbers Week 2020" is running from 7-13 September and aims to encourage everyone to measure their blood pressure, take the necessary steps if their reading is high, and raise awareness of the risks of high blood pressure. Share using the hashtags #KnowYourNumbers and #YouAreInControl, and tag @BloodPress_UK (Twitter) or @bloodpressureuk (Facebook). Blood Pressure UK are the only UK charity dedicated to lowering the nation's blood pressure to prevent stroke and heart disease. Find out more about high blood pressure (hypertension), including causes and how to prevent it.

Remember, if you do need to speak to a doctor do not hesitate to ring your team for advice and assistance.

You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating, fundraising and pledging your support.
