From your Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Every month the Academy Medical Centre Patient Participation Group raises awareness of some of the health and wellbeing campaigns running nationally and worldwide.
The following campaigns are running in September:
- Self-Care Awareness Month: This is the month when you can try to do more to manage your own health. Pick up leaflets in the foyer on what to do when you have a minor ailment or when to seek advice in an emergency. There are also leaflets on how to lower your blood pressure, how to eat and drink healthily, smoking cessation and diet. If you can't find a particular leaflet or the information you are looking for, please leave your name and phone number/email address, and someone from the PPG will contact you.
- National Dementia Carers' Day on 8 September: Many people living with dementia rely on the love, support and care of family members, friends and unpaid carers. National Dementia Carers’ Day, founded by the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK and SweetTree Home Care Services was established to share, recognise, and support this crucial role.
- World Alzheimer's Day on 21 September: World Alzheimer's Day is an opportunity for organisations and individuals around the world to raise awareness, highlight issues faced by people affected by dementia and demonstrate how to overcome them to help people live well with dementia.
You can get involved and raise awareness by talking about the campaigns, tweeting or sharing on social media, or by donating and pledging your support.
About the PPG
The Academy Medical Centre PPG has worked with the practice since 2010 to enhance the delivery of primary care services in a number of areas.
You can make a difference to the Practice too! To get involved or find out more about the work and how the PPG assists the practice and you, the patient, see the Academy Medical Centre PPG page. Notes of our meetings are also available to give you a real flavour of what we're doing.
The next meeting of the PPG will be held on 1 October 2019 (there is no meeting in September).
